Masterchef Finalists Launch Restaurant Concept At Celtic Manor

Masterchef finalists Dale Williams and Larkin Cen have joined forces with the Celtic Manor Resort to launch an exciting new restaurant venture.

The chefs will unveil their new Hokkei concept at a special “pop-up” restaurant in the five-star resort’s Manor House in November. But hurry! The restaurant will open for four days only from November 21-24 at Celtic Manor to unveil the fresh, modern Asian concept created by the young Welsh cooks.

Larkin said:

“Dale and I became great friends filming Masterchef and we soon realised we both wanted to pursue careers in the kitchen after the show. We share a passion for modern Asian cuisine but wanted to create a new twist on this style.

“We are thrilled to set up a joint venture with Celtic Manor to launch Hokkei in one of the resort’s excellent restaurant spaces, allowing us to tap into the expertise of its culinary team. This gives everyone an opportunity to try our menu before we find a permanent home for the restaurant in the new year.”

Hokkei is not the first pop-up restaurant experience for Celtic Manor. The resort made a successful foray into Cardiff in November 2012 to open Hide’n’Sea in Pontcanna which sold out over a four-day stint. This time the temporary restaurant will be on site but showcasing a different type of cuisine to the resort’s range of six restaurants.

Larkin and Dale were pipped to the Masterchef title by Natalie Coleman in May but the finalists have been in hot demand ever since for cookery demonstrations and public appearances at events like the Good Food Show and the Feast Festival.

They have still found time to continue experimenting in the kitchen to fine-tune the Hokkei concept. The Celtic Manor launch will feature dishes like a “21st Century Duck” starter of smoked duck breast, duck consommé and Peking duck wraps; a “Shanghai Sizzler” main course of pulled pork Singapore noodles, triple-cooked crispy beef and spring rolls; and a dessert of pineapple panna cotta and accompanying drink titled “Pina Colada or whatever you rather” inspired by the Dizzee Rascal song.

Dale said:

“We wanted to create a fresh and funky take on modern Asian cuisine and we’re really excited about launching Hokkei at Celtic Manor.

“The combination of our innovative menu and the stylish surroundings of the Celtic Manor will make this a dining experience not to be missed.”

Celtic Manor Chief Operating Officer Ian Edwards said:

“This pop-up restaurant is going to be a real event!

“We all watched Larkin and Dale’s progress in Masterchef with growing excitement and we’re delighted that these two exciting, up-and-coming chefs have chosen Celtic Manor to launch Hokkei. I’m sure foodie enthusiasts will be really keen to come and taste their food.”

The three-course set menu comes at a great value fixed price of £30 and the pop-up restaurant aims to serve up to 800 covers over the four days from Thursday November 21 – Sunday November 24. Hokkei reservations will be taken from 7.15-9.00pm on Thursday, from 12.00-9.00pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 12-2.00pm on Sunday.
