I’m always looking for an excuse to drink champagne, and I must say Terry M’s Jacquart Champagne Gourmet Evening was the best yet!
Held in the resort’s fine dining restaurant, the event was a fizz fanatic’s haven, with specially selected champagnes accompanying each of the tasting menu’s five courses, complemented by fascinating introductions from Jacquart winemaker Floriane Eznack.
Upon arrival canapés were served with a deliciously light Jacquart Brut Mosaïque NV. Restaurant manager Ronan Hunter welcomed diners and introduced Jacquart brand ambassadors and winemaker Floriane Eznack.
Fillet of Red Mullet was then served with a Parsley Tapioca, a tantalizing mix of texture, whilst we willingly accepted a top up of our Jacquart Brut.
Salsify and Goat’s Milk Pannacotta arrived soon after with Jacquart Blanc de Blancs 2005 served in a larger flute, all the better to taste it, according to Floriane.
The main event was a tender Dodine of Free Range Duck, served with Duck Liver and Truffle and a rich Jacquart Brut de Nominée NV.
The penultimate course, and my favourite, was Langres de Champagne with Green Apple Salad. An indulgently creamy cheese soaked in champagne, contrasting perfectly with the tang of the apple salad and Jacquart Extra Brut NV.
To finish, what better way to enjoy Rosé than with chocolate? A decadent Chocolate Fondant Mousse was served with Flavours of Raspberry, including a melt in the mouth foam and nostalgic dib dab style sherbet. Presented with a perfectly chilled flute of Jacquart Rosé NV, this really was the cherry on the cake.
The friendly, social ambience was what set this event apart. Restaurant manager Ronan Hunter, AA Rossette winning chef Tim McDougall and several Jacquart ambassador’s all visited our table throughout the evening to ensure we were enjoying ourselves and generally sharing the love about all things fizzy. All the while we eagerly took mental notes as Floriane let us in on a few champagne secrets (wash flutes in warm water for maximum bubbles).
The evening was a welcome change to the usual Friday night dinner date. We experienced fine dining with a variety of exquisite champagnes, and superb service teamed with light-hearted expert opinion. We left feeling satisfied, educated and, quite frankly, a little intoxicated.
Terry M's next event, the Hallgarten Druitt Gourmet Evening takes place on Thursday 16th May.
